Description

UAS regulatory sequences drive expression of a mutant form of Hsap\RPL8 containing a frameshift at G710, resulting in a truncation of the 257 amino acid full-length protein at glycine 236 and a fusion of an additional 52 amino acid residues to the C-terminus.

When Hsap\RPL8DN.Scer\UAS is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF the eyes are small compared to wild type and appear flattened. This phenotype is not due to a reduction in the number of ommatidia, but due to a reduction in their size. The photoreceptor clusters are also smaller than those seen in controls but undergo normal neuronal differentiation in the posterior of the eye disc.

Expression of Hsap\RPL8DN.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4en-e16E causes a reduction in wing cell size, wing cell number and consequently wing size.

The wing margin bristle cells in clones expressing Hsap\RPL8DN.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Scer\FRT.Act5C are reduced in size by 20% compared to controls.
