Description

A modified genomic fragment has been inserted into the attP site present in orb2^attP via phiC31-mediated recombination. The resulting allele consists of orb2 tagged at the C-terminal end with GFP, in which the orb2 RBD domain has been replaced by the Mmus\Cpeb2 RBD domain. A single mFRT11 site is present downstream of the orb2 coding sequence, and single attL and attR sites (generated during the recombination process) are also present.

Homozygous orb2::Mmus\Cpeb2^{RBD.T:Avic\GFP} male flies show strong defects in long term 24 hour memory when exposed to a courtship conditioning paradigm. Unlike wild type flies, males that experience futile courtship of mated and therefore unreceptive females often fail to suppress their courtship towards other mated females. Short term 1 hour memory is comparable to wild type.
