mir-124Δ4/Df(2L)Exel7069 males paired with mature wild-type females achieve copulation significantly less often than control males during a 30 minute observation period.

mir-124Δ4/mir-124Δ177 males paired with mature wild-type females achieve copulation significantly less often than control males during a 30 minute observation period. Courtship initiation latency is normal. The mutant males are also less successful in mating than control males after their wings are removed, suggesting that a defect in courtship song is not an important contributor to the mutant phenotype. mir-124Δ4/mir-124Δ177 males paired with decapitated wild-type females do not show a reduction in courtship index compared to control males.

There is no difference in the amount of time that mir-124Δ4/mir-124Δ177 and control males devote to courtship of control target males. However, mir-124Δ4/mir-124Δ177 target males elicit more courtship activity from both control and mir-124Δ4/mir-124Δ177 males than do control target males.

Wild-type males spend more than twice as much time courting mir-124Δ4/mir-124Δ177 target males than control target males in a courtship choice assay.

mir-124Δ4/mir-124Δ177 males have altered cuticle hydrocarbon profiles: the level of cis-vaccenyl acetate is significantly reduced and the levels of pentacosenes are significantly increased compared to wild type.

mir-124Δ4/mir-124Δ177 males show lower levels of aggression compared to control males: fighting latency is increased and the frequency of fighting behaviours such as lunging and fencing is reduced.
