Partial elimination of R8 photoreceptors by the expression of rpr^UAS.C under the control of Scer\GAL4^sens.F2 leads to loss of columnar structures from the larval and pupal eye, but the R7 terminals are still present in the pupal eye (M4/M5 layers).
