Sequencing from 1kb upstream of the start codon to the end of the first 5' ubiquitin unit, and from the beginning of the last 3' ubiquitin to 580bp after the stop codon failed to identify any mutations in these regions. (Ten tandem copies of the Ub monomer sequence prevents sequencing of the poly-ubiquitin coding region.)

In the testis of males transheterozygous for Ubi-p63EZ3-3969 and Ubi-p63EZ3-4216, Ubi-p63EZ3-2534 or Ubi-p63EZ3-5802, germ cells develop into mature spermatocytes but cell cycle progression is blocked prior to entering the first meiotic division.
Ubi-p63EZ3-3969 is rescued by Ubi-p63E+tLa
Ubi-p63E+tLa completely rescues the meiotic arrest and male sterility of Ubi-p63EZ3-3969.
