Homozygous adults lay eggs with a shorter anterior-posterior axis than wild type.

Sibling crosses between homozygotes either produce no eggs, or eggs that don't hatch. Crosses between homozygous females and wild type males result in a few viable eggs, but eggs are not produced or don't hatch in the majority of cases. Crosses between homozygous males and wild type females result in a viable eggs in 50% of cases, and unhatched eggs in the other 50%.

About half of Sep21/Sep22 transheterozygotes die as pharates.

Only 53% of Sep21 egg chambers have the wild type number of nurse cell nuclei (15); the remaining chambers have either more or fewer, ranging from 3 to 57.

Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI-mediated expression of Sep5Scer\UAS.P\T.cOa only provides a weak rescue of the abnormal nurse cell number of Sep21 egg chambers in some cases.

Sep21/Sep22, Sep51/Sep52 animals arrest as prepupae. Wandering third instars of this genotype completely lack imaginal discs.

A low percentage of Sep52, Sep21 larval neuroblasts have tetraploid nuclei, compared to 0% in wild type.
