The expression of ecddsRNA.UAS.WIZ for 20 days from day 3 after eclosion, under the combined control of Scer\GAL4esg.PU and Gal80[ts], leads to fewer intestine progenitors (ISCs and enteroblasts) in the adult posterior midgut, as compared to controls.

Clones in the wing disc expressing ecddsRNA.Scer\UAS.WIZ under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PI are eliminated within 72 hours after induction of ecddsRNA.Scer\UAS.WIZ expression.

Expression of ecddsRNA.Scer\UAS.WIZ under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.PU results in the appearance of apoptotic cells in the wing imaginal disc. This gives rise to adults with wings that have a reduction in the intervein region corresponding to the Scer\GAL4dpp.PU expression domain and which lack the anterior crossvein.

Animals expressing ecddsRNA.Scer\UAS.WIZ under the control of Scer\GAL4phm.PO reach the third larval instar but cannot pupate. The mutant larvae are smaller than controls at 6 days after egg laying. The prothoracic gland cells are reduced in size and have smaller nuclei than normal in the mutant larvae.

Co-expression of Hsap\ECDScer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG suppresses the appearance of apoptotic cells in the wing imaginal discs of animals expressing ecddsRNA.Scer\UAS.WIZ under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.PU and also suppresses the wing defects seen in these animals at the adult stage.
