Expression of Der-1Scer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF causes severe eye defects.

The cytosol of outer photoreceptors expressing Der-1Scer\UAS.cLa under the control of Scer\GAL4ninaE.PT is often filled with ER-resembling tubular membranes. Mitochondria are less than half the size of controls. Some of these atypical mitochondria show poor membrane integrity and intracristal swelling. The mitochondria in the inner photoreceptors appear normal.
