Dop1R2Scer\UAS.cHa exacerbates the phenotypes seen in a paraquat-induced model of Parkinson's Disease.
Expression of Dop1R2Scer\UAS.cHa under the control of Scer\GAL4ple.PF results in decreased resistance of flies to paraquat intoxication. Increased survival rates are seen at 24 hours after ingestion and 2 hours after direct application to the ventral nerve cord (VNC) of decapitated flies.
Expression of Dop1R2Scer\UAS.cHa in glutamatergic neurons under the control of Scer\GAL4VGlut.PC decreases survival rates of decapitated flies following direct application of dopamine to the ventral nerve cord (VNC).
Expression of Dop1R2Scer\UAS.cHa in glutamatergic neurons under the control of Scer\GAL4VGlut.PC, serotonergic neurons (Scer\GAL4Trh.PB), or in glial cells (Scer\GAL4repo) has no effect on viability in the absence of paraquat. Expression in all neurons (Scer\GAL4elav-C155), dopaminergic neurons (Scer\GAL4ple.PF) or cholinergic neurons (Scer\GAL4Cha.7.4) results in lethality at the pupal stage.
