Expression of parkSA.Scer\UAS in indirect flight muscles under the control of Scer\GAL4Mhc.PU does not have a significant effect on mitochondria length compared to controls, but mitochondrial morphology is less uniform. ATP levels are similar to controls.

Expression of parkSA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Mhc.PU improves the decline in climbing ability usually seen in older flies.

The indirect flight muscles of flies expressing parkSA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4da.PU in a parkΔ21/park1 mutant background contain abnormally fused mitochondria.

Expression of parkSA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4ple.PU has no effect on the distribution and morphology of the mitochondria in dopaminergic neurons in 5 day old flies compared to controls.

Flies expressing parkSA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4ple.PU exhibit reduced flying ability compared to controls.

Expression of parkSA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4ple.PU results in an age-dependent loss of dopaminergic neurons.

The abnormally large, fused mitochondria observed in Pink1B9 mutant flies are completely rescued when parkSA.Scer\UAS is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4Mhc.PU.

Expression of parkSA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Mhc.PU suppresses the reduction in ATP levels seen in Pink1B9 mutant flies. The reduction in climbing ability and wing and thorax defects are also rescued.

Expression of parkSA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4ple.PU rescues the mitochondrial aggregation and distribution defects seen in Pink1B9 mutant dopaminergic neurons.

Flies expressing parkSA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4ple.PU exhibit reduced flying ability compared to controls.

Pink1B9 enhances the dopaminergic neuron loss seen when parkSA.Scer\UAS is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4ple.PU.

Comments

Expression of parkSA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4da.PU fails to rescue the mitochondria phenotype seen in parkΔ21/park1 mutant indirect flight muscles. The reduction in ATP levels is rescued, and is improved to a level higher than that of controls.

Expression of parkSA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Mhc.PU partially rescues the wing posture and thorax defects seen in parkΔ21/park1 mutant flies. The reduction in ATP levels is also improved.
