Inhibition (using shits1.UAS.Tag:MYC at 31[o]C) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R89B01 and Hsap\RELAAD.R13F02 in adults during retrieval, but not training or consolidation, significantly reduces 2 h aversive, or appetitive, olfactory memory, compared to controls; inhibition in combination with a paired odor, results in a significant increase in short-term associative aversive olfactory memory in fed, but not starved, flies, compared to controls.

Adult males with inhibition (using Ctet\tetXTNT-LC.UAS) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R89B01 and Hsap\RELAAD.R13F02 have significantly weaker suppression of courtship behavior following training with mated females, compared to controls.

Optogenetic stimulation (using Npha\HRe.UAS.cBa.YFP with 593 nm (yellow) light activation) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R89B01 and Hsap\RELAAD.R13F02 significantly impairs visual short term memory following training with pain stimulus in adult flies, compared to controls.

Blocking synaptic transmission (using shits1.IVS.p10.20xScer\UAS at 33[o]C) from neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 combination of Hsap\RELAAD.R13F02 and Scer\GAL4DBD.R89B01 does not significantly impair visual (aversive color discrimination conditioning) memory performance, compared to controls.

Thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.(B).cKa at 28.5[o]C) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R89B01 and Hsap\RELAAD.R13F02 does not significantly affect the amount of sleep in adult males or females or affect locomotor activity of awake adult males, compared to controls; activation of neurons targeted by Scer\GAL4DBD.R89B01 and Hsap\RELAAD.R19B03 significantly decreases the amount of sleep in males, but not females, and significantly decreases locomotor activity of awake adult males, compared to controls.
