The R19B03 enhancer fragment is fused upstream of the Drosophila synthetic core promoter (DSCP) followed by the p65(AD)::Zip+ hemidriver (component of a 'split driver' system, contains the p65 activation domain). A Hsp70 transcriptional terminator is present.

Inhibition (using shits1.UAS.Tag:MYC at 31[o]C) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R39A11 and Hsap\RELAAD.R19B03 in adults during retrieval, but not training or consolidation, significantly reduces 2 h aversive olfactory memory, compared to controls; inhibition during training, consolidation or retrieval significantly reduces 2 h appetitive olfactory memory, compared to controls; inhibition in combination with a paired odor results in a significant increase in short-term associative aversive olfactory memory in fed or starved flies, compared to controls.

Thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.(B).cKa at 31[o]C) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R39A11 and Hsap\RELAAD.R19B03 in adults during training, consolidation or retrieval significantly reduces 2 h aversive, but not appetitive, olfactory memory, compared to controls; thermogenetic activation in combination with a paired odor, does not affect short-term associative olfactory memory in fed or starved flies, compared to controls.

Inhibition (using shits1.IVS.p10.20xUAS at 31.5[o]C) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R39A11 and Hsap\RELAAD.R19B03 after sleep deprivation in adult males significantly reduces the amount of extra rebound sleep, compared to controls.
