The R30E11 enhancer fragment is fused upstream of the Drosophila synthetic core promoter (DSCP) followed by the p65(AD)::Zip+ hemidriver (component of a 'split driver' system, contains the p65 activation domain). A Hsp70 transcriptional terminator is present.

Inhibition (using shi1.UAS at 31-33[o]C) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R22B12 and Hsap\RELAAD.R30E11 in adults during training, consolidation and testing significantly reduces aversive 2 h associative olfactory memory, compared to controls, with no effect on innate odor or shock avoidance, compared to controls; inhibition (using shits1.IVS.p10.20xUAS at 31-33[o]C) significantly reduces aversive 1 min associative visual memory, compared to controls, with no effect on naive shock avoidance.
Thermogenetic activation (using TrpA1UAS.(B).cKa at 32[o]C) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R22B12 and Hsap\RELAAD.R30E11 in combination with a paired odor significantly induces aversive olfactory 3 min memory, compared to controls.
Split-GAL4 transgene, constructed as described in FBrf0212052.
