Imprecise excision of the P{EPgy2}tapasEY02725 insertion, resulting in a deletion of approximately 1.33kb that removes a portion of the longest common exon shared by all tapas isoforms. A 28bp insertion, which is possibly a remnant of the original inserted element, is present at the site of the deletion.

tapas125, tej48-5 has female germline cell phenotype
tapas125, tej48-5 has male germline cell phenotype
tej48-5 tapas125 double mutant females are sterile, while double mutant males are fertile only for the first few days after eclosion. Progressive degeneration of the germline cells is seen in both cases. Apoptotic cells are seen in the germarium in double mutant tej48-5 tapas125 ovaries and testes, in contrast to wild type or single mutant germaria. Double mutant oocytes show a severe defect in polarity establishment.
Germline stem cells appear to be maintained in the gonads in double mutant tej48-5 tapas125 males and females.
