Male (but not female, likely due to dosage compensation) flies with expression of Pka-C3Scer\UAS.cBa driven pan-neuronally by Scer\GAL4Appl.G1a/Y do not show signs of degeneration at 1 day old, but have a few mostly large vacuoles in neuropil after 30 days of aging; around 10% of these flies also have severe vacuolization in the lamina.

sws1/+ enhances degeneration (neuropil vacuolization) in aged male flies with expression of Pka-C3Scer\UAS.cBa driven pan-neuronally by Scer\GAL4Appl.G1a, and also results in vacuolization in aged females.
Expressing Pka-C3UAS.cBa under the control of either Scer\GAL4elav.PU or Scer\GAL4VP16.natalisin rescues the reduced occurrence of copulation in Pka-C3d/Pka-C3d males. Similarly, co-expressing Pka-C3UAS.cBa rescues the copulation phenotype in males expressing Pka-C3NIG.6117R under the control of Scer\GAL4VP16.natalisin.
