One day old flies with MigaXKYF025/MigaXKYF025 mutant photoreceptor clones (in otherwise heterozygous flies) show grossly normal retina morphology, but by 30 days old some rhabdomeres become irregularly shaped and some are lost (a significant decrease in the number rhabdomeres per ommatidium is seen compared to controls); inside photoreceptor cells of 30 day old mutants, some mitochondria become round and swollen and have abnormal cristae (a significant increase in the number of damaged mitochondria per ommatidium is seen compared to controls).

MigaXKYF025/MigaXKYF025 fat body clones show mitochondrial fragmentation (swollen, round, lost cristae) compared to controls.
