Trehcs1/Trehcs1 and Trehcs1/Df(2R)Exel6072, but not Trehcs1/+, mutants exhibit lethality during pupal stage. Trehcs1/Trehcs1 and Trehcs1/Df(2R)Exel6072 mutants exhibit significantly increased trehalose and decreased glucose levels, but no significant difference in glycogen or TAG levels in third instar larvae, as compared to controls. Trehcs1/Trehcs1 mutant larvae display significantly decreased survival and increased trehalose in response to starvation, but do not show significant changes in glycogen levels in response to starvation or desiccation, as compared to controls; Trehcs1/Trehcs1, but not Trehcs1/+, mutant larvae exhibit a significant increase in hemolymph volume, and display significantly decreased viability after desiccation stress, as compared to controls.
