The GMR37G11 enhancer fragment followed by the Drosophila synthetic core promoter (DSCP) is fused upstream of the GAL4(DBD)::Zip- hemidriver (component of the 'Split GAL4' system, contains the GAL4 DNA-binding domain).

Inhibition (using shi1.UAS at 33[o]C) of neurons targeted by the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R37G11 and Hsap\RELAAD.R73B12, or the split-GAL4 pair of Scer\GAL4DBD.R37G11 and Hsap\RELAAD.R29G05, in adults during testing significantly impairs immediate, 3-hour and long-term aversive olfactory memory, compared to controls, with no effect on naive avoidance of training odors; for both sets of neurons, this inhibition also significantly reduces innate attraction to apple cider vinegar and ethyl acetate, but not isoamyl acetate, compared to controls.
