In larvae, ScerGAL4^Octβ3R.PE is expressed in surface sensilla, particularly in the posterior part of the larva, the Malpighian tubules, and, in the CNS, is strongly expressed in the mushroom bodies and large numbers of segmentally organized neurons in the abdominal neuromeres. In adults, it is expressed weakly in the hindgut, trachea and the Malpighian tubules, it is strongly expressed in mushroom bodies and antennal lobes, it is also expressed in the central brain and in small numbers of cells in the optic lobes and thoracico-abdominal ganglion. In the antennal lobes expression is seen in somata at the margin, and from two dorsal unpaired median located neurons that send projections that bifurcate near the midline and brance to the antennal lobe and toward the median protocerebrum. Expression is also seen in a cluster of somata in the antennal mechanosensory and motor center that send projections past the antennal lobe and toward the medial region.
