17nt-long deletion produces a premature stop codon, resulting in production of the N- terminal 412aa fragment of Marf1 which includes the RNA-recognition motif (RRM) and first LOTUS domain.
Comment:A 17bp deletion near the N-terminal end of the Marf1 coding sequence produces a frameshift and early translation termination.
Marf1RL1 homozygous females are sterile as no egg hatches, despite the same number of eggs being laid as in controls. Stage 14 oocytes show abnormal yolk aggregation and unfertilized eggs fail to show meiotic spindles and polar bodies.
