sov2/sovdel1 transheterozygous females exhibit rudimentary ovaries; while most germaria show no germ cells, almost all remaining germaria show germ cell tumors, with each cell containing a single spectrosome. Escort cells are decreased in number, are virtual absent from the niche and fail to extend protrusions.

sovdel1 germline clones in the adult germarium niche are less frequent than control clones if induced during adulthood, but not if induced during L1 stage; adult-induced clones are progressively lost. Both sovdel1 escort cell clones and escort cell number per clone are less frequent than control regardless of the clones being induced during L1 stage or during adulthood.
