Description

Insertion of a T nucleotide at position 13,420 relative to the first transcription start site of sov. This results in a frameshift.

Insertion of a single nucleotide (T) at position X:6769743 (release 6 genome).

Frameshift mutation generating a premature stop codon after amino acid 3151, resulting in a truncated mutant protein lacking 152 C-terminal amino acids.

The ovaries of sov2/Df(1)sov, sov2/sovML150 or sov2/sovEA42 transheterozygous females, but not sov2/sovNP6070 transheterozygous females, show a range of phenotypes, including abnormal numbers of spectrosomes in the germarium, degenerate tissue characterized by small, nub-like ovaries comprising dysmorphic germaria, ovarian tumors and empty ovarioles.

Eggs from sov2 germline clones yield viable progeny.

sov2/sovdel1 and sov2/sovML150 transheterozygous females exhibit rudimentary ovaries; while most germaria show no germ cells, almost all remaining germaria show germ cell tumors, with each cell containing a single spectrosome. Escort cells are decreased in number and are virtual absent from the niche.

Germaria in sov2/sovML150 transheterozygotes also show an increase in apoptotic cells, as compared to controls.

Ovarioles and egg chambers are fused. Large nurse-like nuclei are seen.

Homozygous females produce small ovaries that contain few egg cysts and disorganised ovarioles. The egg cysts that develop have aberrant morphology, including abnormal numbers of nurse cells and patches of necrotic cells. Homozygous females made heterozygous with sovML150 or sovML185 are viable but the ovarian phenotype becomes more severe.

Ovaries have abnormally shaped yolks.
