Nonsense mutation (TGG to TAG) at Trp codon.
The ovaries of sov2/sovEA42 transheterozygous females show a range of phenotypes, including abnormal numbers of spectrosomes in the germarium, degenerate tissue characterized by small, nub-like ovaries comprising dysmorphic germaria, ovarian tumors and empty ovarioles.
sovEA42 female germline clones do not produce vitellogenic egg chambers or mature eggs.
Homozygous females produce small ovaries that contain few egg cysts and disorganised ovarioles. The egg cysts that develop have aberrant morphology, including abnormal numbers of nurse cells and patches of necrotic cells.
Lethality acts at the embryonic and larval stages. abnormal oogenesis
sovEA42 has lethal phenotype, suppressible by Dp(1;3)DC486
sovEA42 has decreased cell number | germline clone | oogenesis phenotype, suppressible by Dp(1;3)sn13a1
sovEA42 has egg chamber | germline clone phenotype, suppressible by Dp(1;3)sn13a1
Df(1)sov female germline clones do not produce vitellogenic egg chambers or mature eggs, which is rescued by Dp(1;3)DC486.
Lefevre.
In contrast to FBrf0080470, which suggested that the 'EA42' chromosome carries separable mutations in adjacent female-sterile and lethal loci, rescue of both the female sterility and lethality of the 'EA42' chromosome by duplications and a transgene containing sov suggests that the female sterility and lethality of the chromosome map to the same locus.
Separable from: sov4.
