GlyS8 homozygous adults do not show obvious morphological defects, despite a small but significant decrease in body mass only in males; GlyS8/Df(3R)ED10561 transheterozygous male and female adults show normal body weight.

GlyS8 homozygous adult males show a significant decrease in climbing ability under both fed and starved conditions and have impaired flight ability, as compared to controls. GlyS8/Df(3R)ED10561 transheterozygous adult males show the same significant decrease in climbing ability, as compared to controls.

GlyS8 homozygotes show significant mortality during the larval stages, which is not related to molting defects, as evidenced by the completion of molting from the late second to third instar. Body size is normal at 24h after larval hatching (i.e. late first instar), but is significantly smaller than controls at 48h and 72h after larval hatching (i.e. late second instar and mid-third instar, respectively); the smaller body volume is not detected by pupariation, despite of no changes in developmental time to pupariation; third instar larvae food consumption is comparable to controls.

Embryos laid by GlyS8 mothers exhibit a delay in hatching and a slight decreased in hatching rate, as compared to controls.
