Chromophore-Assisted Laser Inactivation (CALI) of sqh in the sqhSuperNova-Red homozygous male pupal A8a epithelium leads to a decreased frequency and randomization of adherens junction (AJ) remodeling, as compared to controls; laser ablation experiments also show reduced cell vertex displacement, indicating a decrease in contractility, as compared to controls. Localized CALI at shortening junctions impedes their shortening; localized CALI at the tricellular AJs of growing junctions blocks their growth; localized CALI at either neighboring bicellular AJs and medial cortices of neighboring cells in the proximity of growing junctions does not affect junction remodeling, as compared to controls.
