Description
The general transcription factor complexes (TFIIA, TFIID, TFIIE, TFIIF and TFIIH) cooperate with RNA polymerase II to bind and open promoter DNA, to initiate RNA synthesis and stimulate the escape of RNA Pol II from the promoter. For initiation, RNA polymerase II assembles with the GTFs at promoter DNA to form the pre-initiation complex. (Adapted from PMID:25693126).
