The authors propose that FlyBase adopts the following systematic nomenclature for D. melanogaster genes encoding the major, specific subunits of the Dynactin complex. This nomenclature uses a consistent 'DCTN' prefix, and refers both to the symbols of the mammalian orthologs and usage in the Drosophila literature. Gl / Glued -> DCTN1-p150 CG12042 -> DCTN4-p62 Dmn / Dynamitin -> DCTN2-p50 l(2)37Ce / lethal (2) 37Ce -> DCTN6-p27 dyn-p25 / dynactin-subunit-p25 -> DCTN5-p25 l(2)06496 / lethal (2) 06496 -> DCTN3-p24 Tom Hays, Department of Genetics, Cell Biology and Development, University of Minnesota Bill Saxton, Department of Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology, University of California Simon Bullock, MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge Steven Marygold, FlyBase
