Description

Insertion lines from this collection were assessed for inclusion in the Gene Disruption Project collection.

A set of mutant stocks derived by insertional mutagenesis using the P-element construct P{lacW}; most lines have a lethal or sterile phenotype. The P{lacW} construct carries a w+mC mini-white visible marker, Ecol\lacZ enhancer trap sequences, and bacterial sequences that allow plasmid rescue (FBrf0049800).

The "l(2)k03906" chromosome is viable in combination with Df(2L)Exel7048 and Df(2L)BSC144. These two deficiencies together span 31B1 to 31F5, which uncovers the 31F1-31F2 location determined for the P{lacW}k03906a insertion by in situ hybridisation. This indicates that the lethality of the chromosome is separable from the P{lacW}k03906a insertion. FlyBase curator comment: evidence suggests that the lethality of the "l(2)k03906" chromosome maps to the second insertion present on the chromosome, P{lacW}l(2)k03906bk03906b, which has been located to 51B by in situ hybridisation (FBrf0067338), since two deficiencies which each uncover this region (Df(2R)trix and Df(2R)03072) fail to complement the lethality of the "l(2)k03906" chromosome (FBrf0067338).

NOTE: derived from line carrying multiple insertions.

This insertion was listed in the BDGP database as a lethal or sterile line during the period 1994-1999, but was not verified as such prior to the summary publication (FBrf0111489). Reasons for excluding lines from the collection described in FBrf0111489 include presence of more than one P insertion on the mutant chromosome, separation of lethality (or sterility) from the location of the insertion, and loss of lethality (or sterility) from the stock.
