Expression of parkScer\UAS.cSa in indirect flight muscles under the control of Scer\GAL4Mhc.PU shortens the mitochondria in the direction of the long axis compared with controls. ATP levels are similar to controls.

Expression of parkScer\UAS.cSa under the control of Scer\GAL4Mhc.PU improves the decline in climbing ability usually seen in older flies, although performance in 7-day old flies is reduced compared to controls.

Expression of parkScer\UAS.cSa under the control of Scer\GAL4ple.PU causes a reduction in the number of tubular mitochondria in the cell bodies of dopaminergic neurons in 5 day old flies compared to controls. The mitochondria usually observed outside of the cell body are not seen.

Flies expressing parkScer\UAS.cSa under the control of Scer\GAL4ple.PU do not exhibit reduced flying ability compared to controls.

Expression of parkScer\UAS.cSa under the control of Scer\GAL4ple.PU results in an age-dependent loss of dopaminergic neurons. Lifespan is unaffected.
