The lateralgraten are missing and ectopic mouthhooks are formed in mutant larvae.

Homozygous mutant embryos exhibit a deletion of mandibular and labral derivatives of the head skeleton. The oocyte nucleus in cnc03921 germ-line clones localises normally up until stage 8/9. By the end of stage 9, 75% of mutant oocytes have a mislocalised nucleus. This nucleus is still tightly associated with the cortical actin network, indicating that it remains attached to the plasma membrane. The early distribution of microtubules in cnc03921 germ-line clones is normal. however by stage 10A, a large number of cortical microtubules can be seen in the posterior half of the oocyte often in the vicinity of the misplaced nucleus, whereas the cortical microtubule density is reduced atb the anterior pole when compared to wild-type. About 80% of cnc03921 germ-line clones develop into embryos with a completely ventralised chorion, with some having a defective aeropyle as well. About 14% show weak or intermediate ventralisation with either a residual or single dorsal appendage.

Homozygous embryos exhibit head defects. Germline clones produce abnormal eggs due to abnormal oogenesis: few eggs are laid, vitellogenic oocytes.
