Description

157bp deletion removing the majority of intron 8 and 22 nucleotides of exon 9 of sd isoform E21. This removes 7 amino acids and the splice site at the intron 8/exon 9 boundary, possibly resulting in a frameshifted protein. The protein encoded by the sd E7 isoform appears to be unaffected in this mutant.

100bp deletion within the sd coding region between +12 and +12.4kb.

sd12 mutant eye disc clones grow normally, comprising ~17% of the tissue.

Homozygous clones in the third larval instar eye disc do not show obvious growth defects compared to control clones.

Homozygous clones in the eye are very small and result in eye bristle defects; some of the bristles are shorter than normal and duplications and mispatterning of the bristles is seen.

Homozygous clones in the leg lead to leg truncations.

Homozygotes die as first instar larvae. sd12/sdETX4 flies have a scalloped wing phenotype, with the loss of most of the wing blade tissue and erosion of the wing margin.

Homozygous mutant clones grow normally in the notal and hinge regions of the wing imaginal disc, but not within the wing blade. 2 Days after clone induction only very small clones can sometimes be found in the wing blade. 4 days after induction no mutant cells survive.

Larvae exhibit slow growth. Heterozygotes with viable sd alleles exhibit an extreme wing phenotype.

sd12/sd12 retinal clones have suppression of the increased proportion of pale R8 photoreceptors in flies with BEAF-32AB-KO/Df(2R)BSC429, to the extent that it is reduced compared to wild-type controls.

sd12 suppresses the reduction in clone growth seen in ykiB5 mutant eye discs. The clones comprise ~15% of the eye disc.

sd12 suppresses the reduction in clone size seen in the eye discs of larvae expressing TgiScer\UAS.B.

The large eye phenotype caused by expression of ykiScer\UAS.cHa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF is suppressed by sd12/+.

The large size and round shape of clones in the eye disc expressing ykiScer\UAS.cHa under the control of Scer\GAL4tub.PU is suppressed if the clones are also homozygous for sd12.
