One copy causes mild external eye roughening, two copies enhances the roughening. Dosage-dependent (two or more copies of P{sev-svp1}) transformation of cone cells into R7 photoreceptors and at a lower frequency R7 cells into outer photoreceptors. Also an increasing number of ommatidia have malformed and collapsed lenses.
Rough eye phenotype. Transformation of cone cells towards R7 neurons. Increased copies of P{sev-svp1} cause ommatidia to contain seven or more outer photoreceptors and one or more R7 cells, this represents a transformation of R7 to an outer photoreceptor.

Effect is weaker than for svp2.sev. Phenotype depends on C terminal portion of the protein, see svpsev.ΔMlu, svpsev.ΔSal and svpsev.ΔSal.
Cone cell transformation can be dominantly suppressed by mutations in components of the Ras85D signal transduction cascade. Mutations in negative regulators of Ras85D activity act as dominant enhancers.
