Df(3L)ri-XT1/fng2 animals that survive to adulthood exhibit a moderate wing phenotype. fng2/fng80 animals that survive to adulthood exhibit a weak wing phenotype. fng2/fng13 animals that survive to adulthood exhibit a moderate wing phenotype. fng2/fngM69 animals that survive to adulthood when grown at 18oC exhibit a moderate wing phenotype. fng2/fng52 animals that survive to adulthood exhibit a moderate wing phenotype. fng2/fng2 animals that survive to adulthood exhibit a weak wing phenotype.
Homozygous females have ovaries showing 0% compound follicles, 0% with long stalks 9% of follicles have abnormal epithelium. Transheterozygous fng2/fng80 females have ovaries showing 0% compound follicles, 26% with long stalks 48% of follicles have abnormal epithelium. Transheterozygous fng2/fngM69 females have ovaries showing 0% compound follicles, 11% with long stalks 37% of follicles have abnormal epithelium. Transheterozygous fng2/fng13 females have ovaries showing 0% compound follicles, 12% with long stalks 42% of follicles have abnormal epithelium. Where follicles do not include the usual 16 germline cells, those with more than usual germline cells lie next to those with fewer than usual germline cells. Along the length of the entire ovariole the oocyte:nurse cell ratio is normal. The abnormalities of number of germline cells in each egg chamber is caused by defects in the enclosure of germline cysts by somatic follicle cells. The long stalk phenotype is sometimes accompanied by a stalk disorganization phenotype.
Loss of tissue from the wing margin.
Phenotypic analysis suggests the following allelic series: fngM69 > fng52 > fng2.
One of seven EMS induced alleles recovered.
