A flam1/flam1 permissive germline (which is surrounded by a flam1/flamovoD1 restrictive soma) is not sufficient by itself to induce the high frequency of ovoD1 inactivation (indicative of gypsy transposition) which is seen in the progeny of non-mosaic flam1/flam1 control females. The frequency of ovoD1 inactivation in the progeny of mosaic females (containing a flam1/flam1 permissive germline surrounded by a flam1/flamovoD1 restrictive soma) and of non-mosaic flam1/flamovoD1 females is one order of magnitude less than that of non-mosaic flam1/flam1 control females.

flamA/flam1, ctA/ct6 double transheterozygotes show a small but significant increase in mortality as compared to flamA/flam1 single heterozygotes.
Bx2, flam1 double homozygotes display scalloped wing margin defects and wing blistering in a significant proportion of the population.
flam1 is not completely recessive and flam1 homozygotes show a stronger phenotype (i.e. induce more instability) than flam1/deficiency.
