    Description

FlyBase curator comment: this entry is used to capture phenotypic information when the particular allele (or allele combination) used by the author could not be determined but the context of the experiment suggests that the phenotype being described is some kind of loss of function.

    Detailed Description

Packing of inter-ommatidial cells is normal in somatic clones of witunspecified homozygous cells in the pupal retina.

While muscle size remains normal in mutant larvae, all neuromuscular synapses are smaller than wild-type with nearly 100% penetrance. the size of individual synaptic boutons appeared normal but boutons are often spaced further apart from one another. The specificity of the neuromuscular connections was not affected. The size of the sensory neurons appear normal and the dendritic tree of multidendritic neurons is not visibly reduced in mutants. Neuromuscular synapses in mutant stage 16 embryos appear similar to wild-type, those of the first instar larvae have visibly smaller synapses compared to wild-type, as so those of second instar wit mutants.

Mutants appear wild-type for axon guidance, and all the synapses of all larval motoneurons appear to be established with their proper targets.

    Statement
    Reference

The increased bouton number at the neuromuscular junction that is seen in homozygous Vps35EY14200 larvae is suppressed by witunspecified/+.

Co-expression of sax::witwit-EC.sax-IC.Ubi-p63E and sax::witsax-EC.wit-IC.Ubi-p63E only poorly rescues neuromuscular junction size in witunspecified mutants. The increase in bouton number at the neuromuscular junction seen in larvae expressing Scer\UBP2Scer\UAS.cDa under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PLu in a wild-type background is not seen if they express Scer\UBP2Scer\UAS.cDa under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PLu in a witunspecified background.
