Homozygotes and transheterozygotes with aopyan-1 exhibit small rough eyes due to ectopic R7 cells. Transheterozygotes with aope2d, Df(2L)dp-79b, aop1 or aop2 are semi-lethal and the adult escapers have small rough eyes due to fusion of ommatidia, loss of the regular pigment cell array and ectopic R7 cells.
