Functionally a null allele. Viability over deficiencies for dpn is two- to three-fold lower than for dpn3, dpn4 or dpn5. Viability of dpn1/dpn6 is unexpectedly high, perhaps due to transvection between the alleles. Complementation between mutant dpn alleles reveals differences in strength but little male-specific lethality.
