Embryos from ftz-f1209 mothers have cuticle defects. The even-numbered parasegmental cuticle is deleted.

The majority of embryos laid by ftz-f1209 mothers exhibit a pair-rule phenotype. However a low level of escapers are seen.

Embryos derived from mutant females show parasegmental deletions in T2, A1, A3, A5 and A7.

When ftzΔ151-209.αTub84B is expressed in embryos derived from ftz-f1209 mothers, the denticle belt phenotype is partially suppressed. When sperm expressing ftzΔ151-209.αTub84B is used to fertilise these eggs, no suppression is seen.
