hid110 mutants (where the Bolwig organ is ablated) show less photo-avoidance at low light intensity compared to controls but exhibit nearly normal avoidance response to high-intensity, short-wavelength light.

Flies have very small eyes due to excess cell death in the developing eye.

hid110 mutants expressing both hidScer\UAS.cUa and rprScer\UAS.cUa in class IV dendritic arborization neurons (under the control of Scer\GAL4ppk.1.9) show markedly decreased white-light-avoidance behavior compared to wild-type and hid110 (bolwig-organ-ablated) mutants.

Reduction of TrpA1 expression in class IV dendritic arborization neurons by expression of TrpA1dsRNA.Scer\UAS.cUa under the control of Scer\GAL4ppk.1.9 is sufficient to abolish the light avoidance behavior in hid110 mutant animals without Bolwig organs.

Phenotype is partially suppressed by removing one copy of gl and completely suppressed by coexpressing BacA\p35GMR.PH.
