porink05123 homozygous mutant clones in the eye have normal morphology at 1 day old and then show light-dependent retinal degeneration (at 10 days old, including loss of rhabdomeres), and ERG recordings show slow termination of the light response compared to wild type; remobilization of the porink05123 P-element rescues the phenotype.

Rare adult homozygous escapers are seen. Homozygous and porink05123/porink08405 adult escapers do not show any evident morphological defects, but have locomotory abnormalities and a short life span.
