2-3% of crol06470/crolk08217 mutant animals are able to eclose from the pupal case, though these adults have severe morphological defects. 71% of these escapers have strongly misshapen legs, often with a severe kink in the femur. All escapers also display wing defects. Over half have held out wings with a partial (blister) or complete (balloon) separation of the dorsal and ventral wing surfaces, while the remainder have either malformed or completely unfolded wings. The blisters seen are generally large and do not appear to have sharp boundaries.
Homozygotes display a lethal phenotype indistinguishable from that of crol04418.
