Hemizygous females are sterile. Only a small sperm aster forms in many eggs derived from hemizygous females. There is no apparent female pronuclear specification or evidence of migration towards the male pronucleus. Triplo- or tetra-fusion of the polar bodies is common. Embryogenesis arrests before or shortly after cortical migration of cleavage nuclei in eggs derived from heterozygous females.
