Detailed Description

argosGMR.PS eyes show roughening of the surface with disorganization of ommatidial arrays.

Flies carrying one copy of argosGMR.PS have a mild rough eye phenotype, with the loss of some photoreceptor cells and pigmented lattices. Flies carrying two copies of argosGMR.PS have smaller eyes with a more irregular array of ommatidia containing fewer cells than flies carrying one copy.

Eyes are small with fewer photoreceptor neurons per ommatidia. Photoreceptor neurons undergo apoptosis.

Cell death during pupal development: numbers of photoreceptor, cone and pigment cells are reduced. Eye is slightly smaller than wild type. Phenotype is stronger for two copies of the transgene. Patterns of cell death and photoreceptor differentiation are normal in larval discs, however the number of dead cells in the pupal retina is increased.

eye, non-suppressible { Hsrω[Sym.Scer\UAS], Hsrω[a.Sym.Scer\UAS], Scer\GAL4[GMR.PF] }

Eyes mutant for both styΔ5 and carrying argosGMR.PS have a normal-size eye and an extra-R7 phenotype similar to that of styΔ5 alone.

The mutant eye phenotype is suppressed by Iap2GMR.PH, BacA\p35GMR.PH, thGMR.PH and Df(3L)H99. Flies carrying both Ras85DV12.hs and argosGMR.PS show a normal number of cone cells in most ommatidia.
