    Description

FlyBase curator comment: this entry is used to capture phenotypic information when the particular allele (or allele combination) used by the author could not be determined but the context of the experiment suggests that the phenotype being described is some kind of loss of function.

Packing of inter-ommatidial cells is normal in somatic clones of saxunspecified homozygous cells in the pupal retina.

The number of T bars per active zone and bouton surface area per active zone is increased compared to wild type in the boutons of muscle 6/7 in mutant third instar larvae. 70 +/- 4% detachment of the presynaptic membrane is seen. Abnormal "T body" structures are seen in the boutons.

Marked germ cells derived from homozygous germline stem cell clones are only detected in 15% of testes (in contrast to marked germ cells derived from control clones which are detected in 90-100% of testes). Mutant germ cells derived from homozygous germline stem cell clones develop normally into spermatocytes. Testes with persistent mutant germ cell clones have only one or two cysts of differentiating mutant germ cells (a lower number than in testes with control clones), suggesting that germline stem cell clones homozygous for saxunspecified may either be lost over time or may divide less frequently than wild-type stem cells.
