        Males show a defect in spermatogenesis. Spermatid cysts show only 32, not the usual 64 spermatids. The single division that occurs is a first meotic division. When heterozygous with tweZO758 meiotic entry occurs and the phenotype is similar to loss of function twe or bol alleles.

        Spermatocytes from tweZO758/tweZO758 males with only one wild type copy of bol fail to enter meiosis. They do not carry out the G2/M transition; the cells do not relocalize cyclin A from the cytoplasm to the nucleus or form bipolar spindles.
