Insertion of a P{UAS-park.L} element 28bp upstream of the by open reading frame.
Homozygous adults have a blistered wing phenotype. No difference in the attachment of the two wing surfaces between by2 and wild-type wings is seen during both prepupal apposition (4-6 hours after pupariation) and pupal reapposition (30-36 hours after pupariation). After eclosion, by2 flies have folded wings, similar to controls. A sudden and rapid influx of hemolymph induces the unfolding of the by2 wings (in the same manner as in control flies), but as soon as the by2 wings begin to unfold, fluid-filled blisters appear at the distal part of the wings and the boundary of the blisters expands. The wing blisters become fixed in place after the fluid dries. by2 mutants show a reduced hatching rate of laid eggs compared to wild type.

70% of if3/Y ; by2/+ flies have blistered wings. 100% of if3/Y ; by2/by2 flies have blistered wings. The wing blister phenotype of flies expressing rlSem.C.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Bx-MS1096 is not significantly enhanced by by2/+.
