zpg^unspecified mutant ovarioles contain only a few germ cells - 3.8 on average. These cells contain a round spectrosome, but only very rarely stain with a marker for cystoblasts/cystocyte differentiation. The number of these cells attached to cap cells, and the number of cap-cell attached germ-cells in S phase is no different to in wild-type. Egg chamber development is very rare in zpg^unspecified mutants, but where it does occur the fusome is either aberrant or absent and the number of germ-line cells per egg chamber is less than the usual 16.
