Detailed Description

Compared with wild-type eyes, the ectopic expression of prosL.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4sev.EP frequently leads to ommatidia with one or two extra cone cells. In addition, eyes expressing prosL.Scer\UAS via Scer\GAL4sev.EP with a normal complement of cone cells occasionally display an extra R7. The mutant eyes also display a decrease in the number of primary pigment cells, which is proportional to the increase in the number of R7 and cone cells.

Expression of prosL.Scer\UAS induced by Scer\GAL4wor.PA prematurely terminates neuroblast proliferation in larval brains.

Co-expression of both prosL.Scer\UAS and svScer\UAS.cKa consistently converts one extra cell into a cone cell. In contrast, no change in photoreceptor cell or primary pigment cell number is observed.

Overexpression of prosL.Scer\UAS in mutants also expressing svdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4sev.EP results in a significant increase in R7 photoreceptor numbers, with up to four R7 cells per ommatidium, with an average of three. In addition, no cone cells are detected and adult lenses fail to form.

Overexpression of prosL.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4sev.EP in homozygous svspa-pol mutant eyes results in a significant increase in R7 photoreceptor numbers, with three to four often present in individual ommatidia. In addition, no cone cells are detected and adult lenses fail to form.

Expression of prosL.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GH146 in DL1 projection neuron clones which are mutant for Rpd312-37 rescues the dendrite mistargeting defects seen in these mutant clones. In addition, the axon overbranching phenotype seen in Rpd312-37 clones is partially but significantly rescued.

Expression of prosL.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4CG31670.R9D11 suppresses ectopic neuroblasts and restores neuronal differentiation in erm1 larval brains.

Comments

The dendrite mistargeting and axon overbranching phenotypes seen in pros38 DL1 projection neuron clones are rescued by expression in the clone of prosL.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GH146.
