      Comments

      pitahs.PL (plus heat shock) rescues the larval lethality and melanotic tumors due to homozygosity for pita1, pita3, pita08859 or pita02132. Heat shocked pita02132/pita02132; pitahs.PL adults are fertile and show normal oogenesis. However, 3 days after heat shock these flies accumulate abnormal egg chambers, with relatively normal nurse cells but very few surrounding follicle cells. In contrast rescued pita08859 homozygous females are sickly and infertile. Heat shocked pita1 or pita3 homozygous adults carrying pitahs.PL are fertile and have normal embryogenesis. 3 days after heat shock these flies have egg chambers with degenerating follicle cells and germline cells.
