AlphaFold produces a per-residue confidence score (pLDDT) between 0 and 100. Some regions with low pLDDT may be unstructured in isolation.
Low-frequency RNA-Seq exon junction(s) not annotated.
Gene model reviewed during 5.52
None of the polypeptides share 100% sequence identity.
Homodimer; disulfide-linked (via ZAD domain) (PubMed:35580610). Two dimers can interact to form a homotetramer (via ZAD domain) in solution (PubMed:35580610). Interacts (via region between the ZAD domain and the first zinc finger domain) with Cp190 (via BTB domain); the interaction is direct (PubMed:25342723, PubMed:33752739). This interaction is not essential for protein pita function, probably due to redundant recruitment of Cp190 by other insulator DNA-binding proteins whose binding sites cluster with those of pita (PubMed:33752739). Interacts with ZIPIC (PubMed:25342723).

The testis specificity index was calculated from modENCODE tissue expression data by Vedelek et al., 2018 to indicate the degree of testis enrichment compared to other tissues. Scores range from -2.52 (underrepresented) to 5.2 (very high testis bias).

Please Note This section lists cDNAs and ESTs that fall within the genomic extent of the gene model, which may include cDNAs and ESTs of genes within introns, or of overlapping genes. Please see JBrowse for alignment of the cDNAs and ESTs to the gene model.
For each fully sequenced cDNA the DGRC maintains various forms of the cDNA (e.g tagged or untagged) in several different host vectors for subsequent cloning and expression in Drosophila and Drosophila cell lines.

pita RNAi performed in cultured S2 cells results in an increase in the proportion of cells with DNA content intermediate to 2N and 4N 5 days after the initial treatment, characteristic of an increase in the proportion of cells in S phase. In contrast, the rate of cell proliferation is decreased to on average 1.2 times that of control cells.

Some people may find "pita" objectionable as a fly gene name because it is also a potentially vulgar abbreviation.
Named after a British pudding. The extremely overcondensed chromosomes in larval brain cells resemble the fruit in spotted dick.
